Kingston Comedian Of The Year

There’s a touch of the David Sedaris about Lianna Holston, a wry, aloof American storyteller with an eloquence that draws you into her world. You can imagine her holding court at the Algonquin round table, long cigarette holder at he fingertips, as she details every indignity of falling down the stairs. A slow-burn approach that’s more about mood than killer payoffs isn't best suited to the five-minute format, but she made her mark on the show.

The Sunday Long Pod

Comedians and friends Lianna Holston and Siena Jeakle are turning that reaction into a podcast called Tossed Popcorn.  The two women are working their way through AFI’s 100 Greatest Movies of All Time (one movie per episode) and trying to figure out what makes these movies classics in the first place. Their takes are smart, witty and irreverent and I found myself nodding along with them so many times. I particularly appreciated their quickie primer on how to pretend you’ve seen Citizen Kane which is a movie I’ve personally been lying about seeing for years. - Jo Piazza is the podcast host and executive producer of Committed and Under the Influence
